Biography of Sir Michael Moore KBE LVO

Michael Moore joined the royal Navy in 1960. He subsequently commanded the minesweeper HMS Beachampton, the Tribal Class Frigate HMS Tartar and the Leander Class Frigate HMS Andromeda along with the 8th Frigate Squadron.

Other appointments included Executive Officer of the Royal Yacht Britannia, and the post of Director of Naval Warfare. As a Rear Admiral, he was the Maritime Adviser to The Supreme Allied Commander Europe, and his final post was in the rank of Vice Admiral as the NATO Maritime Chief of Staff in Naples.

He took up the post of Director General at the IMechE in 1998.

Sir Michael is bilingual and a qualified interpreter in Swedish/English, a Younger Brother of Trinity House, an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Swedish Institute of Military Sciences, a Trustee of the Forces’ Pension Society, and a Trustee of the Maudslay Scholarship Foundation.

He is married to Penny, who is a JP, and they have one son and three daughters. Their home is in Portchester, Hampshire.
