Sara Parkin OBE

Sara Parkin co-founded Forum for the Future with Jonathon Porritt and Paul Ekins in 1996, and has been an independent campaigner, writer and broadcaster on environmental and sustainable development issues for over 35 years. She designed the Forum’s acclaimed Leadership for Sustainable Development Masters course, established its key partnerships and work programmes with the post-school education sector, and pioneered the influential Engineer of the 21st Century initiative.

Sara also sits on the Boards of the Environment Agency of England and Wales, the Natural Environment Research Agency, the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education, and Head Teachers into Industry. She is a Trustee of the St Andrews Prize, Advisor to the Population and Sustainability Network and former Trustee of Friends of the Earth, Groundwork and the New Economics Foundation.

Sara hails from Scotland, lives and works in Hackney and during the 1970s and 1980s played a leading role in the development of Green Parties in the UK and worldwide. She is a Companion of both the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institute of Energy, and was awarded an OBE in 2001 for services to education and sustainable development.
